Set within the storied landscape of the Scottish Highlands, the latest interior project at Skibo Castle showcases a masterful balance of traditional warmth and contemporary craftsmanship. 

Working in collaboration with Claire Walsh Design, the interiors embrace natural materials and rich textures to create spaces that feel both refined and deeply rooted in place.

A Celebration of Timber

At the heart of this interior lies a commitment to quality and authenticity, every wall and ceiling, is meticulously finished in Imbue timber cladding, enveloping the space in a warm, natural glow. The consistent tone and grain of the timber lend an immediate sense of harmony, drawing the surrounding Highland landscape into the heart of the home.

While the structure’s dramatic ceiling form is supported by steel beams, these have been expertly clad in Abodo Vulcan Vertical Grain timber to achieve the wide, traditional beam sections that define the room’s architecture. This approach combines the strength of steel with the beauty of natural wood, a seamless blend of performance and aesthetic integrity.

Texture and Detail

Both the Imbue cladding and Abodo Vulcan timber feature a wire-brushed texture that enhances the grain and brings a tactile, rustic quality to the surfaces. This subtle detail gives the interior a handcrafted feel, echoing the character of traditional Highland lodges while maintaining a contemporary sophistication. The play of light across the textured grain adds depth and movement, ensuring the timber feels alive within the changing daylight.

To meet modern building performance and safety standards, all timber linings were treated with HR Prof fire retardant, ensuring that the natural materials meet stringent fire safety requirements without compromising their beauty or finish.

The natural timber palette is complemented by soft textiles, traditional patterns, and considered lighting, resulting in a space that feels both timeless and personal. Large windows frame views of the Highland landscape, while the central suspended fireplace anchors the room with a sense of intimacy and warmth.
