Finger-Jointing
FingerJoints.jpg

Finger jointing at Glenalmond Timber is offered as a specialist service designed to give customers access to long, high-performance timber made precisely to their project requirements. Following a £1.3 million investment in a Grecon Dimter structural finger-jointing facility, we can manufacture finger-jointed timber up to 12 m in length with accuracy to ±2 mm.

We are accredited to produce structural finger-jointed timber in C24, C30, and C40 grades. Our process takes stress-graded carcassing timber, cuts it into shorter lengths of 1.8 m to 3.0 m, and re-joins it under controlled conditions. Every joint is tested using our calibrated test rig at our Methven facility in line with CATG-accredited factory process controls, giving customers confidence in consistent structural performance.

The resulting joint can be two to three times stronger than the original timber, while the process also helps remove bow and twist commonly found in longer lengths. We can supply structural finger-jointed timber in sections up to 75 mm × 275 mm, in grades from C16 to C30 ex-stock, cut and precision end-trimmed to exact lengths—helping to reduce site labour, waste, and overall project costs.

For non-structural applications, our finger-jointing service offers customers greater flexibility, cost certainty, and material efficiency. For cladding, decking, and other architectural uses, we can manufacture timber in any specified length, allowing projects to be priced as fixed lump sums rather than including a 10–15% (or more) waste allowance for standard stock lengths.

This can deliver significant savings—particularly on hardwoods or clear softwoods with fire-retardant treatments—while also reducing material waste. Customers can specify exact lengths without compromise, improving visual consistency and installation efficiency on site.

We currently supply finger-jointed cladding in European Larch, Abodo Tundra, Abodo Vulcan Flat Sawn, and Abodo VG (Vertical Laminated), making finger jointing a practical, sustainable, and customer-focused service across both structural and non-structural timber projects.

CNC Detailing

Our CNC detailing service offers customers a uniquely advanced level of precision and flexibility, delivered using the only Uniteam Covertek 5-Axis CNC machine of its kind in the UK.

This capability allows us to provide a complete timber detailing service that meets even the most demanding design tolerances, from complex geometries to high-accuracy connection detailing. Customers can simply send us their drawings or digital designs, which our experienced team will review and respond to within 48 hours, ensuring a fast, collaborative, and reliable service from concept through to production.

With virtually unlimited application possibilities, our CNC detailing service supports a wide range of engineered and solid timber solutions. We regularly machine CLT panels, solid wood components, large feature trusses, and glulam elements, as well as complete component house packs for timber frame, SIPs, and masonry buildings. By manufacturing components accurately off-site, we help customers reduce on-site labour, improve build speed, and achieve consistent quality across every element of a project. This service is ideal for architects, engineers, and contractors looking for precision-engineered timber components delivered ready for installation.

CNC Moulding

Our CNC moulding service gives customers access to one of the most advanced timber profiling capabilities available in the UK. Using our Weinig Powermat 2400 CNC moulding machine—the first of its kind in the country—we can produce both standard industry profiles and fully bespoke, infinitely variable timber designs.

This high-precision technology allows us to respond directly to project requirements, whether you need consistent repeat profiles or completely unique detailing. With the ability to machine timber lengths up to 12 m, the service is ideally suited to large-scale architectural, commercial, and residential projects where accuracy, consistency, and flexibility are essential.

Through this service, customers can specify a wide range of applications and finishes, including cladding, decking, skirting, corner details, architraves, and handrails. We can also apply riven-effect textured surfaces to cladding and decking, adding visual depth and character while maintaining machining accuracy.

Our CNC moulding capability accommodates sections up to 200 mm × 300 mm, giving designers and contractors greater freedom in both scale and form. From clean, contemporary profiles to more expressive architectural details, our CNC moulding service delivers precision-engineered timber tailored exactly to your design and performance needs.
